As its name suggests, this club aims at improving the communication skills of its pupils. A list of the pupils’ expectations from this club was drawn up through an informal discussion during its very first meeting. Subsequently, Ms. Lakshana Utmani and Mr. Saanjiv Pai sensitized children to the importance of articulating their thoughts effectively. They were told about how clear thought and speech could help them, not only as students, but as adults too. Pupils were given poems and passages to read out aloud. They were also made to enact skits. While shortcomings in the area of pronunciation were rectified, accuracy in the areas of word usage and diction was reinforced. Pupils, who initially seemed a bit unsure to take on a reading or recitation assignment, gradually gained confidence. This was seen in the queries on subtle differences in pronunciation that pupils (Some from the fifth and sixth grade too) posed. On some occasions, they used their sharp minds to themselves suggest activities that they felt would improve their oral skills. At the end of the year, a marked change was evident in most of the forty seven pupils who enrolled for this club. It is hoped that they build on the experiences that this club has imparted to them. This would certainly enable them to stand out in a crowd.

The 2007-08, Home-Science Club of Greenlawns School had 32 girl students. The children were taught about nutrition and healthy food. The children learnt to cook various dishes and desserts and how to lay them out on a table for serving.
Besides cooking the girls were also taught basic sewing and stitching, which they learnt with great enthusiasm. The club is conducted by Ms Asha, Ms Gita and Ms Vineeta.
The Carpentry Club of Greenlawns has twenty boys who are very enthusiastic about learning wood work – great new things!!! It is easy to see why carpentry is as popular a hobby now as ever before, as it gives the boys great satisfaction in building, constructing and creating something new from scratch. A sense of achievement! The eager students get best results with a little guidance and the right tools. We had a very productive year, but missed Sir A. Sardesai who complemented the carpentry club by teaching us about electricity.
‘The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.’ The Reading Club of Greenlawns High School has twenty students who do not need any encouragement to read, as they love reading and have no time at home, to do so. Students read books of their choice and it gives us immense pleasure to see the children totally absorbed in their books. It brings to our minds, that books are the quietest and most constant of friends. They are the most accessible and the most patient of teachers. The club is conducted by Ms Myra & Ms Pallavi.
Our principal Mrs. Kiran Bajaj has always encouraged our clubs which are held every Friday after school. One such innovative club is the Art Club. This club gives wings to artistic skills. The teachers in charge of this club are Ms. Nivedita and Ms. Smita. Both of them are Art and Craft teachers in our school. This club gives us time for enjoyment and improving our creativity. The articles we make in this club are usually made out of waste products. Some of the articles we made are photo frames, fridge magnets, pen stands, table coasters, bandhani work on dupattas, glass paintings, wall hangings and painting on T-shirts. The motto of our club is “Best Out Of Waste”. We have always had a good response from the students of our school for many artistic years ahead.
In today’s world, the pressures and demands on students are phenomenal. Pressure of exams, peer pressure and parental pressure result in tension among the students. This stress prevents them from performing skilful actions which in turn deprives them of the results that they deserve to achieve. For reducing stress, the Meditation Club provides an answer. Meditation is focusing attention on a single thought to the exclusion of all other thoughts under the supervision of the intellect. Although for a Gyani, meditation culminates in realising one’s “True Self,” but at the level of the students, help the children to quieten their strained minds by asking them to focus their attention on their breathing, instead of thinking about the events of the day or their future plans. The session begins with some simple yogic asanas to stretch and relax their body parts. Next, they sit in a meditative posture — sukhasana. Light instrumental music helps them to unwind and relax. The music is switched off and the children then focus their attention on their breath. They finally lie down in shavasana and consciously let go and relax each body part. As a variation, on somedays, the children do ‘tratak’ where they focus their eyes on a single point. The exercise helps them to improve their concentration. Palming follows, so that the eyes are relaxed. The entire session helps them to relax and be in the present. If the children learn to do selfless actions with love and compassion for all and work towards a higher ideal in life, meditation would help them to realize their true potential!
The Sensitive Saturdays is all about letting your home shine and overflow on the destitute, the orphans, widows, mentally and physically challenged, the sick and aged member of society. Our children reach out to the poor and needy in society. The upliftment of the under privileged is what the sensitive Saturdays club is all about. This year our greatest achievement was the Adivasi Camp for the upliftment of the give child. Our children home not only shared their resources but also their hearts with these downtrodden children. To see the way our children home interacted with these deprived member of society was heart warming. The children one taught that tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair but manifestations of strength and resolution. Every sensitive Saturday member hopes that as they face the future, may they spread love and affection to all the unfortunate souls whenever they may go. May the spark of love and caring light these members feel for the downtrodden in our society always burn bright.

Several children had enrolled in this club. There were more boys than girls in the club. The children carved fruits and vegetable into flowers and many other items of beauty. They made a Humpty Dumpy of watermelon, parrots out of karela, flowers from carrots, radish and tomatoes and many more such interesting things. The children loved the club and had great fun in carving the vegetables and fruits. They also inculcated good values of sharing, helping one another and team work. Education and holistic education is the
golden wand which can address the
multidimensional aspect of a child’s learning
needs. Their development as a caring, creative
and thinking individual, an aware and sensitive
neighbour, co-existing with all other in Nature.
The Nature Club tries to achieve the above
mentioned qualities in a child through all its
activities children learn to conserve our
environment and to strike a balance between the
biotic and abiotic community around us and take
steps to contribute towards its sustenance and
balance.
The children enjoyed themselves with quiz
competitions, T-shirts painting and making
creative articles out of waste. They even learnt
how to organize eco-friendly parties, thus
enjoying being a part of the Nature Club.

Why are the names Hillary Clinton and
Barack Obama flaunted in the newspapers these
days? Do you not know the answer? The
General Knowledge Club will help you with the
answer.
Overall development of a child is the key
of life. Only academics and text books do not
develop a child’s potential. True personality of a
child is evolved only when he or she explores
knowledge in different streams.
In today’s competitive world one is not
just tested on his/her content knowledge but also
on his/her knowledge of current affairs.
If I.Q. is important, so is G.K.Q., that is
one’s General Knowledge Quotient.
Your knowledge of current affairs will
definitely help you to carve a niche in any
vocation you choose. G.K. Club helps you with
that.
G. K. Club is open to students of class
five to nine, and is conducted by Mrs. Sukanya
Banerjee and Miss Tasneem Choonia.
We encourage children to read
newspapers on a daily basis. Our current affairs
questions are based a lot on the newspaper
articles.
Each continent is studied per week
including its Capitals, Countries, Currencies,
Languages and Exports. It helps them to study all
subjects effectively.
We organize Quiz Competitions and Role
Play.
Children are highly enthusiastic and come
up with various topics to be discussed.
This Club acts as a stepping stone to
many Inter-House and Inter School Quiz
Competitions, like Bournvita Quiz Contest,
National Geographic Quiz, Model United Nations
Conference etc.
All the above skills help to globalize
Education in this highly competitive world. We
are looking forward to the years of awakening.
