On the 1st December 2007, Greenlawns PTA had a truly democratic fun fair, the1st of its kind in many years.
The concept of having he children and teachers participate was introduced this year. This novel idea, thought up the executive committee was presented to the trustees and the principal who to the trustees and the principal who too whole-heartedly supported it.
Circulars were distributed to the school children, where in details of participation were explained. According to the terms each class had to manage their stall independently with the cooperation of the students, parents and the class teacher. After booking a stall at a nominal price, the stall allotted top them would be totally in their hand, from the management to the distribution of profits made by the stall.
But as it usually happens to deter any great ideas, there are many critics. So here too the PTA faced a barrage of criticism and questions, which were all quelled once the preparations gained momentum.
When the day finally arrived, there were a bustle of activities. Each stall was being decked and beautifies by the students, parents and even the teachers. By the evening, when the gates were opened for the public, there was immense gaiety and a strong sense of competition.
Stalls competed with each other for the best presentation, best concept, most innovating games etc. There was a dedication galore, lucky dips and lucky draws throughout the evening. The food stalls earned a lot of a business because they offered a great variety of dishes.
Finally it was a time for the presentation lit was at this moment that the whole school realized what they had really achieved. There were gold and silver trophies for the pre-primary and secondary sections. There were gold and silver medals for the children. Prizes were given away for the most unusual games, best-dressed girls and boys. There were prizes for the teachers and parents as well.
The principal of our school Mrs. Kiran Bajaj gave prizes away who animatedly congratulated the students, teachers and parents for the astounding success of the event. She commented on how the whole school had come together with Great Spirit in the order to host the fun fair, which was in its true sense an event by the children, for the children and of the children.
As the evening came to an end, the children, parents and teachers were instead seeing animatedly discussing and planning on what they wouldn't do with their earnings, which was theirs to keep instead of being tired. To sum it up, Creativity, Enterprise, Independence, Self Confidence and more traits were imparted to the students of Greenlawns in a fun way. The criticism was put to rest and everybody went home with refreshing memories.
